John is right, but yes, kata and hyung are the same thing. They're both written with the same Chinese character:

"The Korean founder, Mr. Choi Yong Sul, said, 'When you are forty, you can get to know the primary skills.' This expresses how difficult hapkido training is." (http://jungkikwan.com)

hyung is the Korean word for "form" like kata is Japanese for "form"

Technically, Kata means 'shape', but I won't be nitpicky.  ;D

Hi Galahad

I don't know if you seen my other post about surgery, but I'm struggling at the moment with a knee problem and waiting for an op. I wouldn't be able to do them justice at the moment.

Is a "hyung" like a kata?

I like Bassai Dai, but I like Tommare Bassai better.

I would have to go with Chil Sung Sam (don't know the Chil Sungs any higher) and Passai.  I would like to learn the higher Chil Sungs but I should probably wait until I get my black belt.  That and the closest person in my federation higherarchy that knows them lives in Arizona.  Gi, can you post a video of you doing them.  I would like to see one that isn't at a competition on youtube.
