Outstanding book.  I read it when I was a mid-ranking kyu, and it really helped me understand why certain moves I didn't understand were in kata, and it made kata easier for me to understand and remember.

I'm looking forward to rereading it as a black belt, as my understanding of karate has certainly increased since the last time I read it.

I thought that this post would fit into so many topics, so I started a new one. If any one is looking for a great book on deciphering bunkai (how to figure it out for yourself, not just another book listing applications) then I wholeheartedly recommend The Way of Kata by Kane and Wilder. One of, if not the, best books on martial arts I have ever read. The authors are based in Go Ju Ryu, I believe, but it's great for any art.
