I don't know, mine is just a photo of me in a jpeg I believe.  Did you get any type of warning about size or anything?

Hi: 

I tried to upload a jpeg avatar picture today but it came up blank: Does it need to be in gif or SWR format or is this option actually  turned off unless you link to a third party site?
