Correct, my school is on Chesnut St, close to 8th St. But that is only a five minute walk to Chinatown...  I need to hang out more in Chinatown. Seems like a very interesting place beyond the restaurants and weapons store...

I did saw you and I did not know it was you! It's a small world. I did remember the guy with the Buddha mask and the drummer with dreadlocks. I guess I'll see you next year, if not for Chinese New Year. BTW, I love the anecdote about visiting the undergroung school. My school is on a third floor and the Wing Chun school is, on a second floor? I was not aware there were other kung fu schools in Chinatown "underground". That is so cool.  8)

Youre school isnt in Chinatown correct? I know there are two WingChun schools in the same building on 10th St and the funny thing is they dont like each other. THere are quite a few schools in Chinatown non Chinese don't know about. My friend with the dreadlocks tell me some interesting stories about the goings on in Chinatown and Chinese "Mafia", rivalries with other Kungfu schools. Difficuties of being kungfu students and not being Chinese while dealing with Chinatown and some pretty sketchy places to hang out down there if you like excitement and things alittle edgy.

Thanks for the tip, BladeSaint, I will google it. Who knows? I also want to compete in the "Battle of Baltimore" even tough I know my sparring is not that good yet (against the middle and heavy weights, I don't have problem sparring people lightweight like me). But it won't kill me to try.

By the way, did you perform at the Autumn Moon Festival in Chinatown. I was hopping to see you in your "private identity". I was the short guy standing on the rail of some steps because I could not see the lion dance... I  was also lightning some firecrackers, which my friend did not though appropiate for "a man on his forties". To which I reply, "you only live once, and is actually 37". I had a lot of fun. And I had dinner at the Golden Phoenix restaurant. Nice food!

LOL* Yes, I was certainly there. I'm not a member of the school that performed the liondance but I did march with the drummer. I dont know if you noticed a man with the drummer in need of a cane which I had wth me. I was wearing a bright red hoody so I fit in with the group. I'm good frieind's with the drummer who had dreadlocks, also the tall older gentleman with glasses who wore the Buddha head mask in the dance just before the parade through Chinatown. I'm glad you made it down and had a great time. I certainly did. This was one of the better years except for the rain. I even visited the "Basement Kungfu school" on Arch St. which was infront of the Thai restaurant. They were Southern Mantis stylists. My girlfriend who has been a martial artist many years before I knew her always wanted to venture down into an "Underground" school in Chinatown but was never in the company of someone who had the guts to go in there with her for fear of having to fight their way back out like in a movie! I had to admit, though I did go down in there too. In the back of my mind a thought did cross. There was only one way in and only one way out. Atleast I had my Mark Shuey Cane master's fighting cane with me to give me an edge! *LOL*

 Hey ChiHua-Ku

You might think about the chinese Kungfu tournament in Washington DC Oct 10-11th then. the International Kungfu Championship. I know its short notice, I just found out about it myself tonight. Its hosted by Nick Scrima and Nick Gracenin (I know, the two Nicks) at the GaryLord International which sounds like some kind of hotel in DC.

Bad news, I just find out they had a problem with the facility and the Gotham Classic was postponed for Saturday Feburary 13, 2010 in a to be determined facility... :(

Well, I guess I have four extra months to get ready for that one. I will have two kung fu tests by then, which can't hurt either.

Is anyone here competing at the NASCA Gotham Classic Tournament in New York City the weekend of 10/03/09? Has anyone participated on this tournament before?  I am broke, but since NYC is only two hours bus ride from Philly, I am considering competing. If I do it, it will be my first NASCA tournament.
