Wouldn't Judo fall under Ju Jitsu and Grappling Arts?

Wouldn't Karate fall under Okinawan Arts?

Anyhow, I guess any form of Kempo would fall under Karate.

When I was younger, I considered a Shorinji School but couldn't get past the manji symbol.  The association though inaccurate was still too strong. I see that it is no longer used in the west which is probably a good idea.

For what its worth, for the sake of organization, I think it should continue in the Japanese arts section.

Again Kimpatsu welcome to the board.

Sincerely, NightOwl
The manji is no longer used anywhere. Instead, we use the tate (shield) and soen (a variation on the yin-yang symbol) universally, under the name of Shorinji Kempo Unity. Here's an example:

Sorry, I couldn't do anything about that. I didn't put together the clips.

Here's a video of Shorinji Kempo. And, yes, that is Jet Li mong the practitioners, but the moves are pure Shorinji Kempo, and all the other practitioners are either instructors or students from Hombu.

Welcome to the board, by the way!  How long have you been training?

He should post them under Japanese arts, right?

Shorinji Kempo sounds very interesting by Galahad's definition, by the way

Shorinji Kempo isn't exactly karate.  This is the description I found.
Looked at from a Japanese martial arts perspective, it could be described as a combination of karate, judo, and aikijujutsu built on a Kung Fu framework, except that this art generally has no killing moves because of its respect for life. It is a form of Kempo that tries to get its practitioners to move through life doing minimal damage whenever possible.

Not in General; you should put your posts under "karate."

Hi, Tony.

There is not enough activity to warrant the inclusion of Shorinji-Kempo only board, so for the time being Shorinji Kempo posts can be entered in the Karate board or the General Japanese board.
I think you'll find, though, that such a forum would attract greater interest. Anyway, I'll post in the General board for now.

You're asking a bit much aren't ya Kimpatsu?  There are like 20 versions of Kempo.
But only one Shorinji Kempo. And, contrary to BoGirl's assertion, it is not a style of karate.

Kempo is a style/system of Karate.

Aikido is not Karate, but has several styles/systems
Jujitsu is not Karate, but has several style/systems
Judo is not Karate
Ninpo is probably closer to Karate, but not really.
