Pshhh   Fay was WEAK!   We saw a LITTLE rain here in Tampa...VERY little. It was forcast to hit us headon, and we were prepared, but it really had nothing for us. It IS, however, a very strange storm with hitting Florida 4 times.  :o But overall, it was super weak, and the news makes it sound and look like it was absolute devastation. LOL  ::)

Just make sure you don't get blown away by Fay's winds while playing big white bird!   :D

She's nowhere near your neck of the woods. She's in Floriduh by me.  :-[ So it would be quite a commute.

Doh!  We have a Pasco, too.  (As does every State, probably...)

Actually I'm testing for Shodan soon. I've studied Shudokan off and on my whole life, and finally made an honest effort at it about a year and a half ago.

Thanks for the name of the jo kata.  I don't currently know it, but that's probably what it is.  I would have first learned it around 1987!

Bogirl:  I'm guessing there is a reason that Empitake is repeated when announcing the kata, but not writing it down.  Can you tell me what I'm actually saying.  If I recall it meant "Elbow like bamboo" but I never understood the signifigance of repeating it, and I don't know what the "no kata" part means.

Thanks everyone!

Empitake does mean "elbow like bamboo".

The "no kata" means it's special. Repeating just makes it more special, I guess.

There are several Shudokan dojos in the area if you're interested in a little travel.

- Columbia River Karate in West Richland
- Trinity Martial Arts Academy in Richland
- The Karate Center in Walla Walla

Depends on the time of day

Pasco/Hernando County
Getting off subject, I live in Pasco...the city - Washington State. I didn't think there was another pasco anywhere else.

I can't imagine trying to keep up with anything more than 8-9 kata if you're going to practice them meaningfully.

Totally agree!  Meaningful to me would be mastery of the form and application, and each stance, block, and attack within.  Sometimes I don't feel like I have that even with the most basic of kata.  Hopefully my attitude is a healthy medium somewhere between humbleness and self-doubt.
